The Q Construction
The former shipping and department store of the Quelle company in Nuremberg, an imposing commercial building from the 1950s designed by Ernst Neufert, stands as a symbol of the German economic miracle. Following Quelle's bankruptcy in 2009, the over 250,000 m² area initially remained unused. The GERCHGROUP acquired the site in 2018 and is now planning a comprehensive transformation. Under the leadership of kister scheithauer gross, the building, which is under historical preservation, will be transformed into a modern mixed-use district named “The Q.” This district will combine apartments, offices, administrative spaces, shops, cafes, and restaurants. A central element will be the “Quelle Forum,” a covered interior space that can be used for a variety of public purposes.
The transformation of the building is expected to be completed by 2026, with the goal of creating a modern and publicly accessible urban quarter.
On behalf of the Gerch Group, I have been documenting the entire process since the beginning of the reconstruction works. My responsibilities include regular construction updates, portraits of the people involved in the construction, aerial photography, and video productions. This documentary work will capture the progress and development of this significant urban planning project.
